Joseph held a prominent position in Egypt but before he was incarcerated, he never contacted his family. Prison mates often become like family and in prison Joseph asked his prison mate, the chief cupbearer, to remember him to Pharaoh: But the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, no he forgot him. Upon his release Joseph remembers his family and offers them food during the famine. In turn, the Egyptians remember Joseph and his family and offer them a place to settle. The Bible’s foundational stories impart a basic truth: in this world, the way we act impacts the way we will be treated.
