This Shabbat is known as Shabbat Shekalim because we take out a second Torah and read about the requirement for each Jew to contribute half a shekel – not more or less – to the building of the mishkan, our original Synagogue. The requirement for each person to bring half a shekel is a reminder that all of us have some of the answers but none of us are perfect.  Shabbat Shekalim teaches us that when we join to build a community, we all have something to contribute but nobody can do it alone.
