Everything God has done aptly in its time. The Midrash counts the various things that God has allotted time for and says, even sin has an appropriate hour. The Torah Temima explains that God looks at the context of everything. What rendered the golden calf sinful was that it came on the heels of leaving Egypt and receiving the Torah. Had the same episode happened much later then God would not have viewed it with the same severity. While right and wrong are absolute, a merciful God measures our deeds and takes everything – the times we're living in – into account. Everything God has done aptly in its time.
