Remember the sabbath day to hallow it. Explaining this verse, Rashi writes if during the week you come across a nice item, put it aside and enjoy it on the Sabbath. Nahmanides points out that this was the practice of Shammai but Hillel did no such thing. To Shammai, Hillel responded with the verse Blessed is the Lord, day after day, confident that later in the week – day after day – he would find something nicer for the Sabbath. Hatam Sofer points out that although the law follows Hillel, Rashi wants us to emulate Shammai for who among us can truly live like Hillel and say in a heartfelt way Blessed is the Lord, day after day. Therefore, if during the week you come across a nice item, put it aside and enjoy it on the Sabbath.
