And Israel journeyed onward… to Beersheba, and he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac. And God said… "Jacob…I am the God of your father. Fear not to go down to Egypt…" Knowing that God did not let his father to leave Israel, on the journey to Egypt, Jacob stops at Beersheba to pay homage to the God of his father Isaac. Jacob hoped that although he was doing things differently from his father, he could have a relationship to the God of his father.
