S – Soharim/Merchants; I – Ishmaelites; M-Midianites – who all traded Joseph until he arrived in Egypt. The midrash may be saying that what Joseph thought was a great gift delivered great grief. Alternately, Joseph viewed challenges as an ornamented tunic knowing that each one improved him and brought distinction.
