After Abraham entertained his guests, he accompanied them some of the way to their next destination. And the men arose from there and looked out over Sodom, Abraham walking along with them to see them off. And the LORD had thought, “Shall I conceal from Abraham what I am about to do?… Closely reading these verses, Sforno explains that when Abraham showed this level of care to his guests, God decided that He had to reveal to Abraham what it was that He was about to do. And so it is while Abraham is caring for other people that God finds in Abraham a treasured partner, as the Psalms teach: The Lord’s secrets are for those who fear Him, and His pact he makes with them.
