On the day of the Binding of Isaac, we are told: And Abraham rose early in the morning and saddled his donkey and took his two lads with him, and Isaac his son…Rashi praises Abraham who acted with alacrity and woke early to fulfil God’s impossibly difficult commandment. The Brisker Rov is reported to have said that the real lesson is not that Abraham was able to wake early but rather, knowing what the next day would bring, he still managed to fall asleep. Abraham remained calm for he was confident that God’s providence spread over him and his family – and it continues to this day, Amen.
