To find Rebecca – an appropriate spouse – for Isaac, Abraham went to great lengths. But Isaac did not follow his father's example. Esau was forty years old and he took wives…and they were a provocation… Later on it was Rebecca who pushed Isaac to intervene with Jacob's marriage plans: Rebecca said to Isaac, "If Jacob takes a wife… from the native girls, what good to me is life?" And Isaac summoned Jacob…and said to him, "You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan…" Rebecca was the result of Abraham's efforts in giving Isaac the right life partner. And later on she ensures that his grandson Jacob would also have the right life partner. Another example of how what we do today, can have ramifications long after we're gone.
