Moses thought, “Let me, pray, turn aside that I may see this great sight, why the bush does not burn up.” And the LORD saw that he had turned aside to see, and God called to himfrom the midst of the bush and said “Moses, Moses”… First God approached Moses in an impersonal manner, through a burning bush. After seeing that Moses did not dismiss the burning bush as a random act but believed that it was meant for him, “God called to him.” First we must “turn aside to see,” explains Sforno, and only then will God call out to us in a personal way.
