Two of the twelve spies believed that the people could successfully enter the land. They were Moses’ student Hosea / Joshua and Caleb. Moses changed his student Hosea’s name to Joshua and now the first two letters of his name spelt God’s name. When Moses did this he prayed for him “may God save you from the scheme of the spies.” The spies entered through the South: And they went up through the South and he came to Hebron. Rashi explains only Caleb visited Hebron and he did so to pray for strength at the burial site of our matriarchs and patriarchs. Prayer was key to the spiritual success of Joshua and Caleb, and it is the key to our spiritual success too.
