The Torah records: And the daughters of Zelophehad… came forward…"Our father died…and he was not part of the community…of Korah…Korah had tried to dislodge Moses and so after learning that their father was not affiliated with him, Moses felt that he could no longer be objective. Therefore, explains Rabbeinu Bahyah, he recused himself from answering their question directly.
