You are upright here today all of you before the LORD your God, your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your overseers, every man of Israel. This verse opens our parasha and is always read on the Shabbat before Rosh HaShana. In the word today many see a hint to Rosh HaShana. On that day we can stand upright and confident – only if we include ourselves in all of you and feel joined to every man of Israel. The more we connect to others, the more we can draw power and meaning from these auspicious days.
