And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “See, I have called by name Bezalel son of Uri son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. Bezalel, the grandson of Hur, was chosen to construct the Mishkan. Who was Hur? Rashi identifies him as Miriam’s son and Josephus claims he was Miriam’s husband. Miriam was Moses’ sister and this made Bezalel a relative of Moses. Abrabarnel suggests that many Israelites wanted to be in in charge of constructing the Mishkan and while Moses knew that Bezalel was the best choice, he hesitated lest the people accuse him of nepotism. Therefore, God had to give Moses the confidence that Bezalel was the correct choice: See, I have called by name Bezalel.
