Often the Torah specifies: It will be when God will bring you into the land…but our portion has “matured” to open with: It will be when you enter the land…A time will come when people, through their own effort, will enter the land. This opening verse leads to the mitzvah of bikurim, bringing the first yield to the Temple. When doing so, the farmer announced: And God brought us to this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. And now, look, I have brought the first yield…This commandment is mentioned here to remind the farmer that although he may focus on the fact that he entered the land on his own, he is part of a movement that began when God brought us to this place and gave us this land.
