Much of our parasha is taken up with the story of Abraham’s anxious instructions to Eliezer to find for Isaac the right wife – but in the end. before Abraham has a chance to interact with Rebekah, Isaac just happens to meet her: And Isaac went out to stroll in the field toward evening, and he raised his eyes and saw and, look, camels were coming. And Rebekah raised her eyes and saw Isaac… Netziv points out that this ironic outcome is no accident but part of God’s plan that the couple should first meet one another and make an impression and only later see their respective parents.
