Famously, the women did not partake in the golden calf. The Hatam Sofer explains that the men put all their faith in Moses and when he disappeared they blackslid. Indeed, the Torah testifies about the men crossing the sea:…and they trusted in the LORD and in Moses His servant. Not so the women, they were less dogmatic in their beliefs and were satisfied with the leadership of his sister Miriam…And Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took the timbrel in her hand, and all the women went out after herConsequently, when Moses did not return as expected, they were not as alarmed as the men and trusted that God would not abandon them.
