And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Make you two silver trumpets…and they shall serve you for calling the community and for the journeying of the camps…And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow the trumpets…Malbim explains that these blasts are used to awaken and move the people – physically and spiritually. Only the sons of Aaron – who loved and pursued peace – are fit for such a task. ShaDaL adds that Aaron had two living sons – Elazar and Ithamar – and therefore God instructed the making of two trumpets. A trumpet for each son, to demonstrate that just as the leadership is unified, so too must the people unify.
