And the LORD spoke to Moshe in the Sinai Desert in the Tent of the Meeting…The Ibn Ezra points out that although he was still in the region of Mount Sinai, Moshe never returned there; he still communicated with God but he did so in the Mishkan – the Tent of the Meeting. For Moshe, greater than anything else was his experience of Sinai yet he found a way to move beyond it. He did not go looking for a past that would not be repeated but learned to experience its essential elements in the present. Individually and collectively, the same is true for us, if we have a profound experience we need to find a way to recreate its essence and not lament its loss, or search for ways to recreate a past that won’t return.
