Moses called to all Israel and said to them, “You have seen all that the LORD did before your own eyes… But the LORD has not given you a heart to know and eyes to see and ears to hear until this day. What changed on this day? Building on the midrashic idea that this day was the day of Moses’ passing, the Meshech Hokhma explained that the people held the mistaken belief that Moshe was independently all-powerful. Despite all that God had done for them, it was only on this day when Moses passed away that the nation understood that God alone was all-powerful.
